About Chef Tanya's Kitchen

Chef Tanya’s Kitchen stands as a pioneering force in plant-based dining, representing over three decades of culinary innovation and unwavering commitment to vegetarian and vegan cuisine.[2] Located at 706 S Eugene Road in Palm Springs, California, this distinctive establishment has evolved from a simple vision into a comprehensive dining and marketplace destination that serves health-conscious diners, committed vegans, and anyone seeking delicious, nutritious food options.[1][3]

The restaurant’s foundation rests on Chef Tanya’s personal journey, which began in the 1980s when she first learned to craft seitan and fresh cultured tempeh while in college. This early passion crystallized into a multi-restaurant concept that would eventually transform the landscape of plant-based dining in Southern California and beyond.[2] In 1990, Chef Tanya opened her first restaurant, MT Plate, which became the first all-vegetarian restaurant in the Coachella Valley, showcasing house-made seitan and tempeh gourmet dishes. This bold move set the stage for what would become a remarkable entrepreneurial journey, despite well-meaning friends advising her to add chicken and fish to the menu to ensure commercial success—advice she steadfastly rejected.[2]

Today, Chef Tanya’s Kitchen operates as a low-key eatery that offers far more than typical vegan fare. The establishment features an all-vegetarian menu centered around deli sandwiches, fresh salads, and healthy bowls, all crafted with meticulous attention to quality and flavor.[1] The restaurant’s signature offerings showcase Chef Tanya’s mastery of plant-based proteins, particularly her house-cultured tempeh and seitan creations. The CTK Tempeh Power Burger has become legendary among patrons, while sandwiches like the Cubano and Chupacabra have earned recognition for making “sandwich history” within the vegan community.[2][4]

What distinguishes Chef Tanya’s Kitchen from typical fast-casual restaurants is its integrated marketplace and curated selection of vegan-friendly merchandise. Operating as both a restaurant and market, the establishment provides customers with access to specialty items and products that align with plant-based lifestyles.[1][3] The space, though located in an industrial park near the airport, has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate both takeout service and a small seating area for those who wish to dine on-site.[1]

The menu reflects Chef Tanya’s philosophy of making food “tasty, fun, healthy and easy,” inspired by her love for good food, nature, and the animal kingdom.[3] Diners can expect cool, crispy organic salads, creative wraps, and an impressive variety of house-made options that go far beyond standard vegetarian fare.[1][4] The portions are notably generous, and the quality of ingredients demonstrates a commitment to nutritional excellence and culinary craftsmanship.

Chef Tanya’s Kitchen has expanded its footprint to include a second location in Palm Desert, as well as Chef Tanya’s Kreamery, which opened in 2022 and serves organic house-made soft serve from oat milk, mix-ins, coffees, teas, and pastries.[2][5] This expansion reflects the growing demand for plant-based options and immune-boosting foods in the region.

For those seeking authentic vegan dining in Palm Springs, Chef Tanya’s Kitchen represents a destination where culinary excellence meets ethical dining practices. The restaurant welcomes customers via phone at +1 760-832-9007 and continues to serve as a beacon for plant-based cuisine in Southern California.[5]

We were driving to L.A. so I browsed the map for vegan friendly eats along that way and found this gem. It's about a 12min drive west of I-10, located in a small business park strip mall. It’s absolutely worth the diversion. They have a small section with groceries, and a larger area with refrigerated goods. I tried El Cubano (no tomato, no cabbage), Potato Salad, and Key Lime Parfait. El Cubano was actually delicious. Their thinly sliced and seasoned seitan was perfect, as was the accompanying sauces and toasted bread. I’d order this on repeat if I lived nearby. I was surprised by how great the potato salad was. It had the perfect mayo/mustard balance, which is extremely difficult to find. I need a gallon of this. The key lime parfait was ok. I expected more (in terms of flavor, not quantity), but it was not bad. I’ve just had much better so I wouldn’t order it again. I’d be willing to try a different dessert next time. It was gluten free so that’s a plus! There were many other things on the menu that caught my eye, but I only have one tummy. If we’d had a cooler I would’ve grabbed some tuNo salad, Egg-y salad, smoked chick’n & pasta, and CTK tempeh pâté from their refrige

Food was amazing!! And they have Rancho Gordo beans 🫘 in their little store. Tons of sweets as well including specialty chocolates and cupcakes. Stopped here twice while on a road trip to Joshua tree from San Diego. I would definitely recommend stopping here!!

Weird location and set up but I like WIERD lol . We had to visit this location as well just to check it out . It’s definitely not as vibey as its sister location in Palm Desert but they bring the FLAVOR ! This time around I tried the Guadalajara burger . It was absolutely delicious. I’d come back for it for sure . The Anaheim Chile’s made the tempeh burger mesh perfectly. We had the coconut cantaloupe drink and omygawd that’s something I could drink everyday , happy we got a refill ! Sad this location doesn’t offer the “kreamery “side of things but they do have pints of ice cream to go and desserts . There were some other menu options that were slightly different as well . When you arrive , you order in the left building , there’s a market also. If you’d like to sit and eat , they do offer indoor seating Nextdoor on the right . Come check it out !

Chef Tonya's Kitchen Palm Springs, California During our visit to Palm Springs, California, we decided to step away from the downtown area and try a restaurant known for its vegan offerings. Although I am not vegan and have only limited experience with plant‑based cuisine, I was genuinely curious to explore something new. The restaurant is just a short drive from downtown and is thoughtfully divided into two main areas. The first section is where guests place their orders, and within this space is a small market featuring plant‑based foods, books, T‑shirts, and other items. After ordering, guests walk a short distance to the indoor picnic‑style dining area, which is furnished with tables and chairs. There are also a few outdoor seating options just outside the market. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. We ordered several sandwiches, shared them by splitting each one in half, and enjoyed every bite. The vegetables were fresh, the bread was excellent, and all the accompaniments complemented the dishes beautifully. We also tried a couple of desserts, which were just as flavorful and decadent as those from other dessert spots we’ve enjoyed. The staff members

I'm not a fan of tempeh, but I decided to try the caprese burger. I was pleasantly surprised to find the texture and flavor was not what I was used to. I enjoyed the burger and really liked the Mac and cheese and potato salad. Dessert was a cherry tart which was sweet and flaky. The dining area is separate from the store and order section, which is nice. However, they are right under the flight path of the airport so it gets pretty loud with the jets flying overhead.
